Cabin Fever

Ohh Minnesota...this is the time of year when the weather becomes a targeted source of conversations (aka, contests to see who is more upset about the lack of warm weather) and the cause of depression.

Am I above such discussions? Certainly not! 

Sometimes it sure does feel like the cold weather, ice and snow will never cease. But it did last year, and the year before that. So if anyone wants to put money on the table, I'd take a sure bet that the warm weather will come again this year. I mean really, if it didn't then we wouldn't be able to express our dissatisfaction about the endless heat in August!

So, in the spirit of Spring, I would like to dedicate this post to positive things, to remind us that we really don't live in Antarctica.

We know that it's just around the corner (we're just not exactly sure where the so-called "corner" is).

Here are my top reasons that Spring is coming - 

The Number One Reason that I can tell Spring is near:

My hens have started laying again, and egg production is increasing!

Hens will only lay at maximum (1 egg/day depending on the breed) when they get a minimum of 14 hours of sunlight each day. 

Our short winter days are getting longer - almost 13 hours now - and the Henleys can tell!

The Number Two Reason that I can tell Spring is near:

Cory and I have begun to plan this years garden! We have even started seeds for a few cool weather crops and herbs!

Nothing says Spring like little green seedlings...ADORABLE!

A box full of salad greens...part of a meal for us and a wonderful treat for the chickens and rabbits!

The Number Three Reason I know Spring is near/here:

My calendar told me so. Apparently someone decided that the official first day of Spring was on March 20th.

Someone had too much to drink.

The "First Day of Spring" was on March 20th....HA!

And there you have it. Three whole reasons that Spring is on its way.
