(These are photos of Mayhew the first day we were able to get into it. It's pretty messy, and a bit maze-like in some areas, so bear with me.)
As you come through the front door of the house, you step into a small foyer and enter the house through a set of glass paneled French doors. Straight ahead you see the main staircase, and a small hallway.
To the left of the foyer is the dining room, and behind that a kitchen. To the right is a huge living room complete with bay windows. In my photos, the living room is actually the one with the table and chairs in it. Any leftover furniture that was there when we got the place was displaced to this room.
The first floor of the house has two kitchens (no pictures of these, I'm sorry!), three full bathrooms (I'm only posting pictures of the pretty things!), a living room, dining room, sunroom and like three other random extra rooms.
Unfortunately the back addition (with all of those extra rooms) will have to be completely torn out and redone due to some...shall we say oversights on the part of the previous owner who built them. In order to expand the house, part of the foundation was compromised, resulting in the partial sinking of one wall. We are going to have to remove the addition and then rebuild the foundation wall. Oh joy!
But its ok, we aren't worried about loosing any square footage. You see, the house also came with a gigantic...ahem...GIGANTIC, attic. This we plan on cleaning, insulating and then finishing. Can you say movie room?!
I also hope you have noticed the array of wallpaper and paneling throughout Mayhew House...so far we have counted over thirty different types/patterns. And that's just what's on the surface. Yes, there are layers...like a big, vintage floral patterned cake.
.Plus, there are lots of pretty pieces of uniqueness throughout! We have three stained glass windows, some neat light fixtures, three sets of sliding pocket doors and my favorite....bunches of floral doorknobs!
Please feel free to comment! Tell us what you love about the house, and what you hate. What you would keep, what you would change!
Attic Movie Room? More like attic Climbing Gym!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely pondered that idea! I'm sure that it will be many things...and a climbing gym is not far out of reach - or interest!
ReplyDeleteYou must keep the micro bathroom. It is such a conservation piece!
ReplyDeleteWe are planning on keeping the micro bath....we might just make it a little bigger!
DeleteOh boy a bouldering cave in the attic! That would be so bomber!
