An Introduction to the Mayhew House

I feel like there are a lot of people out there who say they would love to buy and flip a big, old house. You know, restore the life and beauty of the house. Within that group of people, there are some who just keep those dreamy ideas in their minds and make a Pinterest board about them. We will call these people The Romantics. Then there are those who go out and buy a house. We’ll call them The Crazies.
I am a Romantic. Or at least I was until my man decided to go to the dark side and join team Crazy. Now I am one to – by association.
Yes. He bought a house.
This house:
I call it the Mayhew House, simply for the reason that there is a mini-river called Mayhew Creek running through the 8.7ish acres that this gem is sitting on.
The house itself was built in 1903, making it a ripe ONE-HUNDRED AND NINE years old. I bet that’s older than you. The lovely brownish-orangish thing attached to the back of it there is an “addition” that was built later. It isn’t difficult to see that this was once a gorgeous Victorian home…and a large one at that. Mayhew House has just over 3,000 square feet.
Plus a garage (which will be torn down and rebuilt), and a two story “shop” (for all you ladies and gents out there who need extra room to store your tools, I suggest getting one of these!):

And that’s that. Cory and I will be spending the foreseeable future rebuilding and restoring this place to its former glory –well perhaps with a few more modern twists! So, this is for all you Romantics and Crazies out there who want to follow us through our journey; and for our family and friends, so that when we go missing in action you know where to find us!
