North Shore 2013

Last weekend Cory and I took a short but sweet vacation to the North Shore. Here in Minnesota, that is a reference to the shores of Lake Superior, north of Duluth. This time of year (and any time between May and October) the scenery is absolutely stunning! However, you would have to pay me a LOT of money to go there in the wintertime...yuck.

We got a slow start on Saturday and didn't arrive until later in the evening. The weather was just starting to turn from thick gray clouds into a misty-rain. It was still warm enough to go for a quick hike though!

We were too busy enjoying ourselves to take many pictures, but I think this was one of my favorites (that's Lake Superior in the background).

After our hike on Saturday night, we went to dinner at a local restaurant (the Northern something or other?) and then called it a night!

Sunday we went for a longer hike, about seven miles, up the Superior Hiking Trial/ Twin Lakes Trail to do a loop with a view of Bean and Bear lakes. It was awesome! The sun was shining and at least some of the colorful leaves were still on the trees. We missed the peak of fall color by about a week, but there were definitely a few remnants left for us to take in.

Here's a nice display of yellow in a lowland stand of maple trees!

It was so nice to be able to take some time to get away, even if it was only for a day. We got home Sunday night, in time to get some rest before a 6:00am wake-up call!  It's ok though, I was starting to miss all of our farm critters.

Until next time!

Love,

Kay
