Painting the Kitchen

Cory and I spent a large part of our weekend painting the kitchen of the guesthouse. What a job! The project required several coats of primer and paint on the walls, ceiling and trim.

Early on I took the liberty of designating myself as chief designer, so the painting part really, REALLY excites me! We already bought some of the paint, for the trim and the kitchen/entry...and I got to pick out the colors! Picking out paint is like being on an exotic virtual vacation.

Whoever gets the job of naming each variation of every shade and hue....I will trade jobs with you any day. They give the paint colors names like creme brule, elephant grey, jujube and crimson sand. It's all so...romantic. I chose "rosso verona" for the walls and "sail cloth" for the trim (that's paint-talk for maroon and off-white).

The result? Even more amazing than we had anticipated!

Ok, so it isn't quite finished yet, we still need to do a few touch-ups and install the flooring, but my oh my does this room look so much better than it did before. I'd say the new color is warm and inviting and a definite step up from the rust and teal that was there before.

As you can see from the picture above there were TONS of holes in the walls where the previous owner had nailed and stapled who knows what. It was ridiculous. The wall pictured isn't even the worst of it.

But look at the magic a fresh coat of paint can do!

Apparently this is the best picture I got of the trim. I like the contrast! 

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I can't wait until we finish things up and put the flooring down. It is an oak colored laminate flooring. I think it will make things look bright and clean. We decided to do that very last (after the rest of the guesthouse is dry-walled and painted so that we don't harm it during construction).

In the meantime, I would like to hear paint suggestions for the living room. The trim will be the same as the kitchen, as will be the floor (a light wood).

Here's a picture of what it looks like now! Obviously we will be finishing off those walls, but how should we cover up that lovely olive and orange?? According to Pinterest, these colors are NOT trending right now.

What should we do? Ready, Set, GO!
